Genocide in Comparative Perspective: the Jewish and Acholi Experience

The following article reviews similarities between the Jewish holocaust and Acholi Genocide, in response to a debate by Ugandan army General David Tinyefunza and former UN Undersecretary General for Children in Armed Conflict, Dr. Olara Otunnu.

Although not “officially” recognized, the orchestration of mass deaths in Uganda have crossed the threshold of genocide.

Context of Northern Uganda: Uganda Rising (Video)

Following are all segments of Uganda Rising, a documentary about Northern Uganda which raises the question of whether what’s occurred in Uganda is genocide. The film  focuses mainly on the brutality of the Lord’s Resistance Army.

Good segments in the film show the reality of forced displacement and the “protected villages” which the Ugandan government claimed  would protect civilians. In reality, the camps became the number one cause of death during “Africa’s longest running war.” (more…)
