Message To Museveni: Patriotism Begins At Home (BSN)

In the past few weeks Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni has demanded that Ugandans be “patriotic” and even blamed people who oppose his views as “unpatriotic.”

Mr. President, I believe you don’t know what patriotism means.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines patriotism as “love for or devotion to one’s country” and the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English defines patriotism as “having or expressing a great love of your country.” (more…)

Was attacking the LRA a good strategy? The so far unsuccessful military offensive by the Ugandan government has been analyzed by various news outlets and organizations.

On the civilian side of things, the LA Times ran a story on the issue of renewed insecurity in northern Uganda, but neglected to mention the U.S. sponsored attack on the LRA by Ugandan forces. The article also doesn’t mention that the Ugandan government has not facilitated resettlement. (more…)

The “Lost Children” of Northern Uganda

By 1991, the NRM government through Betty Bigombe and former RDC for Kitgum, JB Ochaya (RIP), were directed to recruit youths – the most significant aspect of the scorch-earth policy of Operation North, led by Maj Gen David Tinyefunza – in the entire Acholi sub-region to protect their own people as “the NRA/UPDF were busy with the security of the country”, they were called Atero Boys / Brigade.
